Training

The Workforce, Learning and Development Team design, develop and deliver high-quality training and provide professional development opportunities for our health and care workforce. We aim to ensure that across the West Midlands, we have the right people in the right place with the right skills to lead and deliver research that meets the evolving needs of our local population.

Training is freely available to all staff who contribute to NIHR Portfolio studies within the  West Midlands. It is delivered through a blended learning format,  on a reciprocal basis within our member organisations, which participate in a locality-based Research Training Collaborative.

The West Midlands Research Training Collaborative (WMRTC) meet quarterly to provide a forum whereby collaborating organisations can share best practice, pool learning resources and promote local initiatives in partnership with the Network.

The purpose of the group is to ensure high-quality training is accessible and sustainable and meets the learning needs of staff from a diverse range of research settings, specialities and disciplines.

We also support local, regional and national initiatives, which aim to develop the capacity and capability of the research workforce and offer opportunities for career development.  We offer advice, support and guidance for workforce planning and aim to find practical solutions to enable research to be embedded within care settings in our region.
